Dyer maintains membership of many industry interest groups and contributes to the development of innovative thinking through active participation in conferences, events and awards schemes. Our projects have gained recognition from bodies such as the British Council for Offices, the International Council of Shopping Centres, the Royal Town Planning Institute and the NHS Building Better Healthcare Awards.
Our position in the marketplace has been recognised by The Architects’ Journal, which in 2007 awarded us ‘Business Achiever of the Year’ and in 2008 rated us as one of the UK’s ‘Top 100’ practices. For two years running, we have been included in ‘The Building Good Employer Guide’ as one of the 75 best employers in the design & construction industry.
We are firmly established as a practice rooted in the art of placemaking, with a portfolio of projects at the heart of urban regeneration. Our community-focused work accounts for around 40% of our turnover and recent awards successes reflect our strong foothold in the public sector.
Gloucester Quays was nominated for 3 of the 7 categories in the Gloucester Civic Awards 2010; ‘Best New Building or Extension’, ‘Best Major Restoration or Sensitive Alteration’ and ‘Most Improved Public Area’. In recognition of the Significant Contribution made to the regeneration and environment of the City, the Civic Trust together with the City Council made this a Special Civic Award for Gloucester Quays Outlet Shopping Centre.
In 2009, we were shortlisted to the final five in Building Design’s ‘Sports Architect of the Year’. We received a mention for Downham Health & Leisure Centre in the 2009 Civic Trust Awards, a short-listing for The Eltham Centre as Building Magazine’s ‘Public Building of the Year’ and short-listings for both The Eltham Centre and Xcel Leisure Centre for SCALA Civic Building of the Year 2009 .We are delighted to have recently won the ‘Best Architect’ accolade in the Cheshire District ‘Built in Quality’ Awards 2009, a prize for which we were nominated by our client, Vale Royal Borough Council. It recognises the recent completion of our highly flexible lifestyles centre in Winsford, Cheshire.
We value awards that involve an element of end-user evaluation and enable our clients to perform better. We are delighted that our offices for MBNA have consistently earned the company ‘Top 10 Best Workplace’ awards by the Great Place to Work Institute in Spain and Éire and Top 50 status in the UK. Our collaboration with Barking & Havering LIFTCo has led to an award for ‘Best Joint Venture Established’ (Public Private Finance Awards) and our rigorous approach to sustainability has helped Chelsea Building Society win a Green Apple ‘Environmental Best Practice’ award for its new Contact Centre. It has also led to a finalist placing for the company in the Gloucestershire Business Awards, again for environmental performance.
In our forty years of practice, we have worked with many challenging sites such as Conservation Areas, listed buildings, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our sensitive design approach has been recognised by many civic award schemes, most recently for our work for The Cheltenham Ladies’ College. We are proud that our buildings have been consistently rated ‘excellent’ through BREEAM assessment and honoured that our flagship new campus for Queen Margaret University was last year short-listed as ‘best sustainable project’ by the Scottish Design Awards. |
